ADVANCE MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!

I was very (beri) busy last week that I can't even say hello to SM, Robinsons and other stores in malls. So for more than seven days I was contented having this "sira" pouch. (Tinatago ko na lang para hindi makita.)

Until this weekend, I finally went to SM and got this new pouch.
Christmas is so near. And I love to sing this song:

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll gave it to my family and friends

I can't wait to visit Pototan, Iloilo to witness the IWAG 2009. Pototan is the Christmas capital of Western Visayas.

For a change, I was able to make some photo cards for friends.

I have my 365 days with the Lord as early this month.
Advance Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2010 to all!

FSO- ILOILO IS THE HOME OF DINAGYANG FESTIVAL

Dinagyang is a festival of excellent choreography, a showcase of Ilonggo heritage and culture. It is as grand as Iloilo's old churches and mansions. It is as crisp as pinasugbong saging, as delectable as pancit molo and batchoy.

The festival was first started to celebrate the feast of the Sto. Niño. From a parish church festivity to honor the Child Jesus, the celebration has evolved to become a religious-cultural activity.

It is now a vehicle to promote Iloilo as a tourist and investment destination.

Through the years, the festival has gained national prominence and recognition by winning the national street dancing competition.

Now, people know that Dinagyang is Iloilo, and Iloilo is Dinagyang.
Viva Sr. Sto. Niño! Viva! Viva!

This week's photo theme in FRIDAY- MY TOWN SHOOT OUT is PREMIER ATTRACTION assigned by KENT. Come with me and let's discover the premier attraction of each participating town/city around the world.

REDLAN'S NOTE

It's the start of the week but I feel tired already. Is it a sign of old age? Lol. I am stressed. I am burnout. Do I need a break? Do I need vacation? Or do I need to quit?

I need some more rest. I was not able to have enough sleep Saturday night. I guess, I slept at four o'clock in the morning. I had a nightmare. So I decided to be awake and thought so many things because I was afraid to go back to sleep. (Gumawa ako ng mga thoughts sa isip ko.)

HAPPINESS: Hindi lahat ay mabibili ng pera. You can't buy me.
SEX: Sinungaling ka!

2012 is worth movie to watch and it's the best movie of the year 2009.

I can't remember the password of my other blog so I created new one (again). It's Redlan's postcard collection. Thanks to Blue Rose for giving me idea how to unzip the template file. I separated my postcard blog here and the other one is the Redlan's CAP. Now, I finally done but my new blogs need to develop still.

I'll visit your blog later. My eyes need rest.

THE HISTORICAL CHURCHES IN ILOILO

The Philippines is home to hundreds of centuries-old Spanish colonial churches. Built at the height of Spanish influence in the archipelago, these churches are a fusion of European and Asian architectural motifs. The Philippines' colonial churches still stand out from the country's modern cityscapes today.

I visited almost all the churches here in Panay particularly around Iloilo City and out-of-town areas. I once traveled to the first district of Iloilo to see the churches of Tigbauan, Tubungan, Guimbal, San Joaquin, and Miag-ao. I also visited the church of Sta Barbara, the Pavia Church, and the Janiuay church.

I regularly go to church and part of my Sunday is to hear mass at Molo church, San Jose Church, and Jaro cathedral.

Here are some churches in addition to the list of churches around Western Visayas:

The flower capital of Iloilo is the home of the church where the 3rd oldest original Sto. Niño image is enshrined. There are only three original image of the child Jesus in the whole archipelago. The oldest is found in Cebu, which was discovered by Legaspi in 1565, in Tondo Church found in 1572 and the one in Arevalo.

In the 150 years of its existence as a parish, the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer in Leganes, Iloilo has locally fulfilled the same functions as shrines, even without canonical recognition. This Church has formed part of the “topography” of the faith and of the popular piety of the people of God, not only in the Island of Panay, but also in the nearby Island of Negros as well as the adjoining islands in the Visayas, who flock to the Church the whole year round to fulfil their promises or “panaad” and to invoke the heavenly intercession of their beloved St. Vincent Ferrer. Furthermore, many testimonies of heavenly favors and spiritual graces received abound among these devotees of the Saint.

On December 5, 1859, the cornerstone of Alimodian Roman Catholic church was laid and attended ny Spanish dignitaries from Manila, Cebu, and Iloilo with Fr. Florencio Martin as the parish priest.Five years later on December 22, 1864, it was formally opened fro worship.A month after the Japanese landed in Oton on April 16, 1942 the head of the civil government ordered it to be burned for fear that it will be used as storage and hiding place of the Japanese. At down of January 28, 1948 an earthquake called lady Kay-kay caused the collapse of a major portion of the church, the convent and two-thirds of the belfry.Whatever is left of its splendor is the shadow of the past.

This post is in connection of the FRIDAY SHOOUT OUT and a photo assignment of Rebecca. The theme is Places of Worship/formal & Informal.

MEN CAN WEAR PATADYONG

Weaving in Panay, particularly in Iloilo, dates back to the pre-Spanish times. By the half of the 18th century, Iloilo already experienced the advent of large-scale weaving. It was already referred to as "the textile capital of the Philippines" by the 19th century.

The most popular and still existing finished item of Iloilo's weaving industry is the patadyong or wrap-around because of its encompassing bearing and meaning in the life of the people. The patadyong is more than just a garment as a skirt or wrap around for women. It serves as an umbrella to protect one from the heat of the sun and the onslaught of the rain. It also serves as a towel and apron combined. It functions also as a one-piece bathing suit when bathing outdoors and is worn when washing clothes in the river. It can be used as a private nook by which one can change her attire. It also functions as a crib for the baby when hooked to a beam in the wall or the ceiling and can be used as a sling to carry the baby while walking or moving around.

As with many Filipino traditional crafts, textile weaving has become marginal in Panay. At present, it worn only in the rural areas and, at times, in cultural presentations and generally only by mature women yet it has not lost its utilitarian value. With the growing market in Manila and abroad, weaving has made a limited but successful comeback, particularly in Kalibo, Miag-ao, Bugasong, Sibalom, Arevalo, and Oton. Most Panayanon weavers do not seem to fear that it will disappear someday. To them, the patadyong will always be needed and use of it cannot be filled by anything else. With this, I support my fellow Panayanons. I utilized patadyong as boxer shorts since I love wearing boxers. So it's not only useful to women now.

Afterall, the patadyong is not just a fabric but is part and parcel of the Panayanon history and culture.

I CAN SEE THE NEW MOON OVER THE WOODEN FENCE

I must admit, what I want, I always get. It is in terms of material things and with money involved. The secret is, I only dream of things I can afford to buy at yung mga pangarap na madali kong maabot.

Pero aminin ko rin na may mga bagay na hindi ko rin makuha. Gaya ng pagsulat ng tamang grammar (obviously nakasulat sa tagalog). Kailangan pa mag-nosebleed muna ako. May mga ideya na biglang pumasok sa isip ko but I don't know what to do. It's like I am in limbo. I even can't remember the password of my other blog now. So I decided to create a new blog. I searched for a unique free blog template. However, I don't know how to unzip and how to get the html code. I also want to have my own domain name but I don't know what's the best webhost. Back then, I spent some hours working for the blog template pero wala pa rin nangyari. Kidding! I think of NEW MOON instead. I can't wait to watch it!

This is the template I really wanted to have: wooden-fence

THANK YOU FINLAND!

I once told here that I was surprised to receive a "thank you" postcard from Finland. Moreover, another Finnish gave me a pin holder. I just met them through postcroosing. I cay say people from Finland are really nice and also sweet. And I am not surprise that BBF housemates treated Cathy warmly during her stay in Big Brother house Finland.

This video makes me admire Finns more! Thanks to Fikavi for sharing this video.
